Openings for PhD students:

We are seeking motivated students interested in astrobiology to join our group!

Potential student projects include, but are not limited to:
  1. using a combination of biogeochemical and climate models to investigate how planetary parameters affect the manifestation of seasons--and how seasonality may constrain habitability. Of additional interest is  whether seasonality in atmospheric properties may pose a challenge and/or provide an opportunity for exoplanet life detection.
  2. integrating geophysical and biogeochemical models to explore oxygen oasis dynamics in Earth's ancient ocean and inform the emergence of habitats suitable for animal-grade complexity on Earth and other habitable worlds.
  3. using biogeochemical models to determine whether oceans on synchronously rotating planets could be hospitable environments. How do oceans on these worlds transport essential nutrients? Is light limitation a problem?

Astrobiology is an interdisciplinary pursuit, and students with backgrounds in earth science, oceanography, microbiology, chemistry, atmospheric science, planetary science, astrophysics or similar fields are encouraged to apply. Previous programming experience (especially FORTRAN and/or Python) is desirable but not required.
